Blood Cancer United is a nonprofit organization, formerly known as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, that fights for people affected by blood cancers: leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma, and more than 100 different blood cancer types. Since its founding in 1949, BCU has invested billions in lifesaving global research to drive new treatments and works to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Through a network of support services, BCU connects patients, survivors, and caregivers with trusted resources, expert counseling, and community. By raising awareness, funding research, and advocating for accessible, affordable care, BCU helps ensure that a blood cancer diagnosis gives individuals a chance to reclaim their lives.
The Need For What We Do Every 3 minutes, one person in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer. Leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among children and adolescents. Approximately 30% of blood cancer patients do not survive 5 years after their diagnosis. Every hour, more than 6 people die from blood cancer… that's 157 per day. |
How You Can Help
Anyone can graciously make a donation at this website starting on Jan 17th at this link: During the conference, delegates may participate in fundraising by scanning the QR codes posted around the school, purchasing a 3 dollar candygram and writing “FWPMUN [their committee name]” in the memo/notes section before making a donation. Including the committee name ensures that each contribution is counted toward that committee’s total.
